Also, and this is important - some of the wood-reasoning below is predicated upon recent changes and new finishes in the wood industry, and is based on factory-finished flooring. So, if something doesn't make sense just write me and I'll explain it - as well as I can...

Wood Flooring
 
Laminates
Less resistant to denting because wood is only as dense as Nature made it. Although some species are more dense, for instance -

Impact Resistance
More resistant to denting or impact, because manufacturers have engineered in more density.
More susceptible to changing color & aging due to Nature.
Fading
Won't fade or change color because it's an image.
New wood finishes with Aluminum Oxide, or Ceramic matrixes (Award Hardwood) make them very abrasion resistant
Abrasion Resistance
(Wear)
Aluminum Oxide in the melamine finish makes them abrasion resistant.
Able to be refinished
Refinishing
Not able to be refinished
Individual boards can be replaced if damaged
Board Repair
Individual boards can be replaced if damaged
Very Stain Resistant with the new generation coatings
Stain Resistance
Nearly Stain Proof - I haven't found anything that stains our laminate floors.
